San Diego travel log...ie like a boring slide show

We arrived around 1am Monday at the La Jolla Sheraton and had a great sleep. Those new Sweet Sleeper beds all the hotels are getting are great! It was right across from the San Diego Temple so that was nice to see everytime we went out. Monday we headed downtown to get some lunch and drop Todd off at the convention center. We ate fish/chips/shrimp/cheeseburgers at Anthony's with the seagulls, submarine, & ships among other things on the boardwalk. After that we headed over to Horton Plaza. We had a great time watching the spray paint artist, especially Brynn. We watched him do two paintings and walked away and then came back and watched him some more. Crazy what that kid could do with a can of spray paint! We also found a fast food Indian place in the food court so we all shared a plate of chicken tikka masala & rice. Among other things, I also found the shoes I've been looking for for Sophie at the Nordstrom there. Of course we had to get some crocs and jibbitz too. We picked up Todd and headed back to the hotel for swimming & time in the fitness room. For FHE we headed to Old Town bought some tortillas by the side of the road and went to the Mormon Battalion visitor's center. We had some private time with the missionaries-they were great with the kids- and then went to watch a short film in the theatre. When we were taking our seats, Brynn ran up to the front in the spotlight by the screen and started doing arm farts in front of everybody. Nice. We headed to a recommended Mexican Restaurant after that and then headed back to the hotel. Tuesday we slept in. Todd met us for lunch, shopping at the Westfield UTC in La Jolla and then I took the kids to Del Mar beach. Sophie loved the sand, even ate some, but mostly just let it fall through her hands. The water was cold but we had a fun time. We ordered pizza for the kids and put on a show they had been wanting to watch. Todd and I headed out to Sushi on the Rock in La Jolla. It was a restaurant we'll put on our "must return to" list. They had this roll that was served with a dipping sauce that had serrano chiles, ponzu, garlic, cilantro, butter and was thin, like soup, a little thicker than a broth. Wednesday we spent time at the pool and La Jolla beaches. We ate at Red Robin and then Todd took some of the kids to Pirates 3. Thursday we took Todd to Del Mar beach, took photos, played football and then went back to our hotel pool with a bag full of Trader Joe treats(coconut macaroons sooo good) until dinner time. We kept trying to go back to the room but the maids were slow and hadn't been there yet. The kids took a few turns with Sophie and she loved swimming. Brynn was in the pool with three teens and yells, "Mom, that girl has an earring in her button". They thought it was funny too, so I was sort of off the hook. Todd took me to Roy that night, a Hawaiian restaurant. We stopped by Baskin Robbins (again) and brought back ice cream for the kids. Their favorite was the surf's up splish splash flavor. I traded Todd who was watching the basketball game for Ally and we went to the mall for a while. We ended the night with some lettuce wraps. Friday we went to the swap meet and had a great time buying accessories, football cards, toys and art supplies. We ate at chick-fil-a and headed to Las Vegas to check out the zappos.com outlet. A unique selection to say the least. We were on a race to St. George to get there before Cafe Rio closed at 10pm. It had been a long week without a visit! We made it thankfully. The chairs were all up on the tables, mats hung on the railings, food was out of the steamer baths, cashier drawer was on the counter but they must have seen the look on my face and had some mercy. We ordered our side salads and sides of chicken and headed to the marriott. I could drink the vinigrette dressing. We spent the next morning in the pool and stopped by costco for gas and hot dogs and drinks. It was a nice relaxing trip. I loved not having a schedule, spending time with the family, having input from the kids on what they wanted to do each day and not having to clean the house for showings and eating out at new places. Thanks Todd! Hello laundry!! Good thing I don't mind doing the wash!

And if you read this til the end, you are my friend.

That sounds so fun. We need to go back, that's it! I love the San Diego temple, it's the best. La Jolla is so beautiful, isn't it? If it wasn't so darn expensive!!! But you know why it is, that's for sure.

Sounds like a fun time! Brynn is so funny! Dad was laughing when I was reading what you wrote about her.

Sounds like a great trip! Better to read it than to ask you to retell it again and again! (Although you'd remember every detail then too!)
