iPod silouhettes tutorial

Some of you asked about the silouhettes-.
Truth is, those took me forever and I did every one differently trying to figure it out. I went to a class on Thursday and asked my trainer and it took him about 30 seconds to do what took me a long time, hunt and peck style. I'll try to explain clearly. Yes, I realize this is BASIC stuff, but Photoshop is not my BFF yet. I use Photoshop Elements on an iMac. If you know you are going to make a photo into a silouhette, try to contrast the subject with the background for easier separation.
1. pick a photo
2. use the selection tool of your choice to trace around either the head or the whole body. I like the magic wand tool if I can use it. If not, the magnetic tool is what I used for this photo.
3.after you trace around your subject, you will see the white lines moving. Click command and delete at the same time. This will fill in the area you have inside the white traveling lines. (is there a technical term for those lines? anybody?) If it is not the color you want, either click "x" to switch the two available colors, or click on the color to pick a new one.
For this photo, I chose black. Now, click and hold shift, command, I. or under the "select" tab, click "inverse". This will move the traveling lines to the other parts of your photo.
Now click the paint bucket, click the color boxes and choose whichever color you want for the background and click anywhere on the background. I'll choose purple for this one. There you go.

Shea just surprised me with a Mac Mini and Photoshop Elements. Maybe you could hone your skills by teaching me a thing or two!
