To my daughters...a week of advice

I've been thinking about all of the women in my life, family and friends who have given advice or acted in a way that has made an impact on my life, my way of looking at things and the way I treat those around me. This week, I'm going to blog about some of these things in honor of Mother's Day ...1) so I don't forget them, and 2) for my daughters.

Mom: You are in the "golden years" the time when you have all of your little ones at home with you. ENJOY IT.

Tara Butler: Your kids are not perfect, quit expecting perfection. Don't get on them so much about little things, let them be kids and they will learn to be perfect in the process.

Heidi Parker: It's okay to have cinnamon rolls for dinner.

Judy Brenner: you can find time to work out, even if it is 5AM, McDonald's has the best biscuits and diet coke (if I ever start drinking), and you are never too old to go back and get your masters degree

Candy Taylor: Protect your kids like nobody's business, always take their side. If they are at fault, help them through it like nobody's business.

Grama Mary: Made lunch special by setting out pretty place mats. I thought red grapes, tomato soup, carrots and string cheese was a gourmet meal. I still love it and think of her when I eat Campbell's tomato soup with pepper sprinkled on top.

Aunt Jane: After my older brother Pete left for BYU she said "your Beeson family life will never be the same from here on out". I was bugged about that, mad really. Still am, but it's life! Once your children start leaving, it will never be the same. But it can still be good.

Heather Gray: Exercise and reading and eating healthy are treats you give yourself. Always have greens at the dinner table, even if it is a bowl of shredded lettuce.

Aunt Mary used to say, with hand motions, "I try to serve someone each day, before the sun sets in the golden west."

Chris-Mom taught me how to bottle tomato soup, a Taylor childhood favorite

Melissa Beeson: Plans fun activities for her boys and makes sugar cookies for nearly every holiday

Mom: take the clothes out of the dryer as soon as you hear it stop, and fold right away for less wrinkles=less ironing

Sandy Wiegand: when you get up in the morning, decide what you are having for dinner.

Danielle Turner: plan and shop for groceries for a two week time period.

Carrie Pearson: Get yourself some good girl friends to help you through your life, to share good times and bad.

Sarah Jones: develop your talents, work at them, love them, share them. Set high goals and achieve them (she's getting her PhD now!)

Mary Kennington: Don't be shy, say hi! It's a small world-she knew my cousins and then moved into my ward in Houston and is a great friend, best listener ever.

Shannon Taylor: Always have fun with your kids, create fun things for them and spend time with them. These are the things they will remember.

Heather Taylor: She is a good example of dependability, looking good and loving her family.

Kelly Beeson: another "develop your talents" girl. Hmmm. Baking- good stuff comes from her lovin' oven, cooking, reading, writing, kid dressing, decorating, sewing, stylin' . You go girl. Lessons?

Kelly Taylor: hard-worker, independent, kind, dependable, happy, positive, clean. We should all be this way.

Tammy Beeson: Everything under control at her place. She can also lay tile and miter cut molding. Wow.

Janae Beeson: patience. multi-tasker, caretaker.

Holli: Use a soft voice, work things out in a kind way, eat healthy, educate your little ones.

Aunt Kathy: teach your kids to sleep in, especially the little ones. You can get so much done in the morning!

Aunt Gaye: I just love how simple their house is, only quality, well built things they love and now that the grandkids (and great nieces and nephews) love...family photos, quilts, funky couches, a piano. Does your aunt have monkey bars and a basketball hoop in the living room??? Does she have a loft? A mattress specifically for placing at the bottom of the stairs for jumping and sliding? That's cool.

Colleen Brown: Work hard as a family, play hard as a family. She brought me hot chocolate and a chocolate covered donut when I was pregnant one morning after the kids had gone to school. It tasted so good! She also brought chocolate covered raisins after I had Brynn.-among all the other nice things she did for me. She took care of me in UT!

Liz: If you bring ice cream cones and ice cream bars to the nieces and nephews, you will move to the top of the favorites list.

Molly: If you have a problem or issue, get over it quickly. She is a great example of this.

LaVon Hansen: Plan gatherings for your children & grandchildren to build traditions. They'll keep coming around--fun Hansen traditions: Grama Hansen's birthday party/Santa visit, Easter Picnic, Halloween Soup/trunk-r-treat/costume parade/February horse show in Scottsdale.

Jill Carson: when we lived in neighboring apartments, she would make good homemade meals every night. She always cleaned up right afterwards and turned on just the counter lights when she was finished. It always looked nice and clean.

to be continued (I will keep adding to this list )
